Our number one priority is to ensure that the rescued cats and kittens we take care of will spend the rest of their lives in safe, loving homes. As well as love and care, this includes their forever humans giving them the veterinary attention they need: annual check-ups and vaccinations, worm and flea treatment at least every 6 months, and anything else specific to the cat or kitten.
At Luna Cat Rescue, we pride ourselves on matching cats and kittens with the right homes and families. We take into account any current resident pets, your family members and your lifestyle when advising you on a good match.
If you are interested in a cat or kitten that we know will not be a good fit, we will always put the needs of our cats and kittens first. In discussion with you, we will help you find the best fit for everyone.
Kittens that are less than 6 months old need the company of other animals and plenty of stimulation and entertainment. A singleton kitten can develop behavioural issues due to loneliness, such as excessive scratching and biting, crying, soiling the house and aggression. This is why we don’t allow single kitten adoptions if there are no other pets in the home. If you don’t have other pets, we’ll ask you to adopt 2 kittens. (It’s way more fun too, we promise!)
Our adoption fee of R950 per cat/kitten includes the following:
– FIV & FeLV test (we do not rehome any cats/kittens that tested positive)
– Deworming, Defleaing and vaccinations up until date of adoption (please note: kittens require monthly vaccinations until the age of 16 weeks!! It is your responsibility to strictly stick to the vaccination schedule of the animal you adopt)
– Microchip
– Sterilisation (kittens over 5 months and adult cats leave our care sterilised; kittens under 5 months will be rehomed intact and we will contact you to arrange for sterilisation through us once they are due; alternatively you can use your private vet and send us proof thereof)
Please note:
The adoption fee does not nearly cover the costs of caring, feeding, testing, sterilising and medicating them before they leave our care; we see it as a commitment fee.
∙ Be at least 18 years of age.
∙ Have the consent of all other parties staying in your household
∙ Have the necessary consent of your landlord if you are renting
∙ Be self-sufficient and have the financial means to support the animal in terms of feeding and medical expenses
Disclaimer: Whilst every effort is made to ensure that all kittens and cats adopted out have tested negative for FeLV and FIV we cannot be held responsible for the virus that is in the incubation period of 60 – 90 days.
It is in the best interest of the kitten and adopter to RETEST your kitten at 6 months old for FeLV and FIV.
The testing of young kittens is always risky due to their age because the FeLV virus can be in incubation for up to 90 days.
In case the adoption does not work out, please be advised that the adoption fee is non-refundable.
